QUESTION AUTHOR APPLICATION

We’re seeking question writers for MOCA Minute, the subspecialty MOCA Minute committees and our exams. Current question authors do not need to reapply to continue writing questions for their current assessment(s).

You must complete the application below all at once, so we've created a checklist of things you'll need and question development tips. Please review the checklist before starting your application.

Download the checklist.

*Please note that we require one year of board certification in anesthesiology to write for the primary assessments or MOCA Minute. QUESTION AUTHOR POLICIES

Assignment of Intellectual Property Rights
You will be engaged in development of content for and on behalf of the ABA (“Author Developed Content”). By accepting this appointment, you acknowledge and agree that all Author Developed Content shall be work made for hire owned by the ABA. As per our Content, Conflict and Confidentiality Policy, you additionally agree to assign and hereby do assign to the ABA all of your rights, title, and interests in the Author Developed Content including, without limitation, any and all copyrights and renewals and extensions thereof, any and all derivative works, adaptations of, modifications of and/or improvements to the Author Developed Content which may be secured under the laws now or hereinafter in force, and all actions and causes of action relating to the forgoing, including the rights to demand, sue for, and receive profits, damages, penalties and other recoveries arising by reason of any past, present, or future infringement of the aforesaid copyrights, or any registrations which may be forthcoming.

MOCA Participation
All volunteers are required to actively participate in MOCA, the ABA's continuing certification program. We’ll waive the annual MOCA fee for volunteers for each year of service you provide. The fee waiver will be applied in the year after your year of service. Volunteers maintaining more than one certificate only receive the waiver for one certificate unless they are writing for two or more exam programs.

Professionalism and Professional Standing
Satisfactory professionalism and professional standing is a requirement for all ABA volunteers, including those with certification from other American Board of Medical Specialties Member Boards. It is also a requirement for MOCA, continuing certification. Please be advised that you have the affirmative obligation to advise us of any and all restrictions placed on any of your medical licenses and provide complete information concerning such restrictions within 60 days of their imposition. Should you have any medical licensure restrictions, we reserve the right to suspend or terminate any and all of your roles as an ABA volunteer (including your participation in ABA activities) indefinitely or until such restrictions have been satisfactorily resolved.

Volunteer Code of Conduct
The ABA recognizes and appreciates the value and importance of physician volunteers in supporting all parts of the certification process. Our volunteer corps are an extension of the ABA; they serve as ambassadors of the ABA beyond their duties as question authors, editors, committee members and examiners. Anesthesiologists serving as ABA volunteers should provide high-quality patient care and demonstrate a commitment to lifelong learning and patient safety as evidenced by active participation in the ABA’s continuing certification program. Given the status of an appointment, the ABA expects volunteers to be role models of professionalism at all times, whether or not directly involved in ABA activities. Please click here to read the full ABA Volunteer Code of Conduct.

Selecting “Yes, I agree” indicates that you have read the above policies in full and agree to abide by them if you are appointed as a question author.*
I confirm that I am not an author or presenter of board review books/courses that are advertised, billed, marketed, or endorsed as an aid in passing an ABA certification examination. Participation in any activity (e.g. editor/author of articles or books, lecturer, presenter) advertised, billed, marketed, or endorsed as an aid in passing an ABA certification examination is prohibited for all ABA volunteers.*
